SAGGERS FAMILY TIMELINE Devoted to Boating Since 1961

1961

The Saggers family business, Hayway Marine, was established by Brian Saggers at 992 Hay Street, Perth, next to Lynas Ford. “This marked the beginning of the Saggers family’s journey in the marine industry – devoted to boating since 1961.”

1975 – 1979

The Saggers family’s involvement in the marine industry grew when Brett gained hands-on experience manufacturing boat trailers with Trailit Trailers. This expertise in crafting all styles and sizes of trailers would prove invaluable in the decades ahead.

1979 – 1996

Brett joined Hayway Marine, starting as a boat detailer and general hand while also conducting boat demonstrations. His passion for customer service quickly led him into boat sales, where he thrived.

1987

With Hayway Marine expanding, stock management became a major focus. The business handled an extensive range of fiberglass and aluminum boat brands, including Fraser, Voyager, King Craft, Bertram, Caribbean, Chivers, Westerberg, Stacer, Haines Hunter, Quintrex, Trail Craft, and many more. Managing a fleet of around 100 new and used boats, the company built a strong reputation for quality and service.

1989

During the economic recession and after Brett was appointed as a director, Hayway Marine relocated to 223 Great Eastern Highway, Belmont. This move positioned the business as one of Australia’s largest undercover boat showrooms, further cementing its standing in the industry.

1995 – 2003

The Saggers family acquired King Craft Boats, a fiberglass boat manufacturing company specializing in trailable boats from 16’ to 19’. The business expanded its expertise in fiberglass manufacturing, incorporating advanced composite technology to keep King Craft Boats at the forefront of innovation.

The operation soon outgrew its original site and moved to its own larger facility at 224 Railway Parade, Queens Park. This expansion enabled the production of boats from 8’ to 43’ flybridge cruisers, with King Craft Boats becoming one of WA’s leading fiberglass boat manufacturers, known for their quality and performance.

1998 – 2004

Seeking new opportunities in boat manufacturing, the Saggers family co-founded KeyWest Boats with Steven Flanders. By the end of 1998, designs for the KeyWest 50’ Sportsfisher were completed, leading to the production of over 20 of these exceptional vessels. The KeyWest (KW) 50’ Sportsfisher became widely regarded as one of Australia’s premier blue-water performers, combining seaworthiness with luxurious fit-outs.

2008 – 2020

After the sale of Hayway Marine and KeyWest Boats, the family continued their involvement in the marine industry through Marine Insurance Assessors, a business specializing in investigating and settling marine insurance claims for leading providers, including AIG, Club Marine, Nautilus Marine, Pantaenius, RAC, Trident Marine, and QBE.

In 2012, Jake Saggers, representing the third generation of the family, joined the business. He developed a deep understanding of the marine industry, gaining hands-on experience across mechanical, shipwright, boat building, electrical, and maintenance fields. As the brokerage business grew, it became clear that all hands were needed to drive its expansion.

2019 – 2022

The Saggers family acquired Mandurah Boat Sales, a unique marine brokerage located on the water with dedicated sales jetties.

2022

With a rich history in the marine industry, the family rebranded Mandurah Boat Sales as Saggers Marine, marking a new era for the business.

Determined to expand into new boat sales, the team attended major boat shows across Australia, securing dealership agreements with premier global brands:
